LITURGIST: Our liturgist today is Deb Wood! Thanks for serving Deb!

2017 SCHEDULES for Greeters, Meals on Wheels, and Head Usher s are up in the main

hallway just waiting for you to sign up!

TODAY we ordain and install our new classes of Ruling Elder s and Deacons! The liturgical color for ordination is red so please enjoy the red paraments and red accessories of Pastor

Michael! Be sure to welcome our newest leaders: Ruling Elder class of 2017: Jay Traughber (completing the term of Eunice DeCourcy) Ruling Elder class of 2019: Bryce Marsaglia, Barb Gunther, and Deb Jelley; Deacons class of 2017: Mario Garza (completing the term of Vickie

Berry) and class of 2019 Richie Durbin, Garnet Tucker, and James Boettger.

BE SURE TO THANK those who have stepped away from active ser vice as of today:

Deacons class of 2016 - Ed Legg & Christina Garza as well as Deacon Vickie Berry. Also leaving active service is the Ruling Elder class of 2016 – Sharon Rogers, Leah Stephens and Penny Larson as well as Ruling Elder Eunice DeCourcy. While they will remain Elders and Deacons (“Once and Elder or Deacon, Always an Elder or Deacon!”) they have earned a well deserved respite and rest from their service.

THE BAPTISMS of Noah Lawrence Carlen and Matthew Duane Carlen have been

rescheduled for next Sunday, January 22! We hope you can join us for this special moment in the lives of those in the Carlen family!

THEY HAVE ARRIVED!!! They being our new projection screens for the sanctuary! Due to when they were received, they were not able to be installed, but look for them to be installed and put into service, if all goes well, next Sunday! Please be sure to give us a bit of grace as we begin to live into this new era with technology as we hope they will become a great enhancement and benefit to our worship!

A TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE is in the works to help make the most of our new

projection screens! We will need help creating as well as running the weekly slideshow to

enhance our services. This will be an essential, yet easy (and fun!) way to serve our church. Please speak with Angi or Keith to see how you can help!

MEETINGS THIS WEEK will include Missions Council on Monday evening and Deacons on Tuesday evening.

MEALS ON WHEELS assignment for our church is this coming week! We have openings on Thursday and Friday if you can help. Remember, meals are now picked up from the Senior Citizens Center, not from Meadow Manor!

DINNER SEASONED WITH LOVE will hold it’s monthly meal this coming Saturday,

January 21. All are welcome to attend and participate as well as to come and serve. If you have ever wondered what it is all about, come and see!

THE CHRISTIAN EDUCATION COUNCIL meeting scheduled for last Tuesday evening was cancelled. A rescheduled meeting has been set for Tuesday, January 24 at 6:30pm. CE is

always looking for new and interested members.

SUMMER MISSION TRIP At the last Session meeting, a motion from the Missions

Council recommending our church to partner with Davis Memorial Christian Church on their

annual mission trip to Detroit in the summer of 2017 was approved. DMCC has an established mission field with a church to stay in and daily jobs to assign, similar to what is done at Missions for Taylorville. Skilled laborers and non-skilled laborers have jobs there. The cost would be $60 per day per person for 3 days—that would include room and board, plus the shared cost of getting there and meals on the way there and back. So total cost could be $300-400 (or less) per person for a 5 day total trip. Jr Hi youth thru adults who feel they can handle sleeping on the floor without air conditioning are welcome. The dates have not been set yet, but will be discussed at tomorrow nights meeting. Mission trips change lives. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please talk with Deb Jelley or Pastor Michael for more information.

MAKE UP TRAINING for Ruling Elder s and Deacons that were unable to make the initial training dates will be offered in the coming weeks. Remember, these are MANDATORY

trainings for all officers. If you were not able to make your assigned session be sure to speak with Pastor Michael in the very near future to discuss possible dates for the make up session.

OUR ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING will be held after worship on January 29. Please plan to stay a few extra minutes that day to review the accomplishments of 2016.

COUNCIL CHAIRS: Your annual summaries need to be written up and turned in to Rev. Evanchak by TODAY!!! If you have not turned your report into either Pastor Michael or Shauna, please do so ASAP!!! The earlier they are completed the better in order to give Shauna enough time to transpose them and put together the Annual Meeting packet. If you will not be here on January 29 and would like a packet delivered to you, please let Pastor Michael know and arrangements can be made.

THE CLO POTLUCK originally scheduled for today has been postponed because of the threat of inclement weather. It will be rescheduled at a later date, possibly in late February or

early March. Be on the look out for more details and be sure to sign up to bring something to share!

SOUPER BOWL is just around the corner of the football field! Missions will host its

annual soup lunch with a variety of soups and chili ready to enjoy on Sunday, February 5. Hot dogs and dessert will also be available. Monetary donations are encouraged with the goal

being $300 to donate to the Food Pantry. If you would like to make a soup or dessert, see Deb Jelley.

PER CAPITA What’s that? Well, to put it simply per capita is how we pay “our dues” to the Presbytery. They need money to operate and for the services they provide to us and the other churches within our presbytery. As they do not own a money tree they get their funds by

assessing a $40 fee per year for each of its active members within each of its congregations. Presbyterians understand themselves as a “connectional” church, and part of that is we receive blessings, but we share obligations as well. Each year’s per capita is based on the numbers turned in a year previously. So what we pay in 2017 is based on the number filed for 2016.

Now, how does FPC pay the $5,000 plus that’s due at the beginning of each year? Well, it’s in the budget and it gets paid. But what Stewardship and Finance asks for is each of us to

reimburse the church for their $40 fee. That would help our stained budget tremendously. The amount of per capita has not changed for several years, not because costs have not risen and not because our obligation to our Synod and General Assembly haven’t gone up (they all have) but because our Presbytery is very aware of how many churches are struggling. As a result, they have absorbed the cost of any increases to per capita by voluntarily lowering the amount that they receive and seeking to do more with less. One way we can honor their

commitment is by making a personal gift to see that this expense is paid and know we have helped sustain our structure and mission for God’s work. If you have any questions about per capita or would like more information, please see our treasurer, Bill Harmon or Pastor
